On the nps website it states that the water is on all year at indian gardens. we may be thinking of 3 mile rest stop from last time.

Tony - I assume the Maswik is for 10/27.
we probably won't need two cars, the shuttle could drop us off at the trail head. Good point about the water at Indian gardens, I will try to find out when it gets turned off.

Six it is:
Len, Ben, Joel, Tony, John, Mike

Why do we need two cars? We can get six and gear in a minivan I would think.

Will there still be water at Indian Garden then? I know last time it was turned off by the time we got there.

Started my personal training sessions - getting that core ready for the hike!

The backcountry Plan looks great to me. There is an overlook about 2 mile from Indian Garden. Not sure if there would be enough time to take a look while getting water. Also since we will need 2 cars I was thinking of looking into flying to phoenix with a day hike near Sedona.there is a campground in
Dead Horse Park and Manzanita Park. Not sure how high they are. I am curious to see the new bridge. I will look into things further. Is the count still 6?

FISHING WITH THE GUIDES
by George Langley
February 5, 2012 FISHING REPORT:

We have had an interesting set of conditions out on the ice, as severe slush problems developed after the last large snow, only to be ameliorated after the warmer weather of the last week or so. That snow has been significantly reduced on the lakes by the sun, and the slush problems have become much more livable. This is a good thing, as many people just couldn't get out during the slush nightmare. We can now get around pretty well on all lakes, and are looking forward to some colder weather to firm everything up nicely.

The fishing in Feb. can be more of a challenge, as we usually have a lot more snow and generally have the worst conditions of the year for getting around, but maybe this year we'll get lucky. Snow conditions in the woods are still OK, but the snow is a little crusted for those trying to use snow shoes. The groomed cross country ski trails are pretty good now. All in all, not bad for this time of year. The sun is definitely much stronger and will have much more of an effect on the snow pack from this point forward.

Walleye fishing has remained surprisingly good, but at times it has become a little inconsistent. We are still getting reports of good evening fishing, and the night fishing can be great until !0:00 PM or so. As usual, shiners and sucker minnows are the needed bait for tipup action. Most anglers are still getting their action on the weed edges or shallower after dark on a daily basis. Some anglers are reporting good action in deeper water off the weeds and dropoffs during the afternoons, usually by setting tipups deeper or by vertical jigging in the 12 - 25 foot depth areas.

Northern action has remained very good in the weeds on a daily basis. Use of large golden shiners is best, and the afternoons seem to be the best time period.

Panfish action has been improving throughout the area, with perch and bluegills leading the way. The 'gills are hitting in the weeds, generally keeping pretty near the bottom in the water column. Spikes or waxies are the best baits for these fish, and they are always in the weeds. The perch are generally a little further out in the weeds, nearer the deep edges. These guys are hitting wigglers and minnows quite well now. Crappie action is improving in the deeper water and very deep weed areas. Crappie minnows are best for these fish.

All in all, we should have a good week with nice ice fishing weather.

Good luck and good fishin'!
